Since centuries this well protected cozy bay gave shelter to foreign and local seamen as well as it was during the 19th century the resiences of the Royal family of Zanzibar. On its Southern half is the "Resort zanzibar" errected on the old Sultan's ruins of  the property. The sandy beach bay is part of an estuary and provides therefore, beside a continous fresh water flow from the bore hole of the hotel, permanent swimming facilities as well as the picture displays a safe anchorage.
